What are the nail files and which one to choose?
The choice of nail file is important because it helps with client work and can increase work speed. We divided the criteria for choosing a file into three categories: abrasiveness, shape and material from which the file is made.
Abrasiveness
Abrasiveness is probably the most important criterion for choosing a nail file. The quality of the manicure or pedicure and the appearance of the nails after the procedure depends on the abrasiveness. In simple words, abrasiveness is the hardness of the file, which is determined by the grit number. The smaller the number on the file, the coarser its filing will be and the harder the file itself will be.
What are the types of saw blades in terms of abrasiveness?
- 60-80 grit: Used to shorten the length of artificial nails. It cannot be used on natural nails, because it will lead to their delamination.
- 100-150 grit: Used only for surface treatment of artificial nails.
- 180-240 grit: Universal files that are suitable both for finishing work with artificial nails and for working with natural ones. They are best suited for adding length and shape to natural nails, preparing nails for applying gel polish, acrylic and gel.
- 240-400 grit: Ideal for adding length and shape to thinner natural nails, used in the final stage of preparation.
- 400-900 grit: They do a good job of gently sanding the surface of natural nails before polishing, preparing them for further polishing.
- 900-1200 grit: Polished files to give a glossy polish to natural nails, create a beautiful mirror shine on the nails.
Forms of pollen
- Oval file: Great for straightening the nail plate and shaping the nails.
- Boomerang file: Most often used for extended nails, especially for filing in the cuticle area.
- Rectangular saw: Universal shape, convenient to use, depending on the hardness, it can work with both artificial and natural nails.
Materials for sawdust
- Metallic: Popular but very hard and can be dangerous for natural nails.
- Wooden: fastidious in care, cannot be wet, inflexible, but comfortable to use on the feet.
- Glass: They have an attractive appearance, they are easy to clean, but they are very fragile.
- Emery on a soft basis: The most universal, suitable for all types of nails and do not damage the nail plate. They have a low price and a long service life (up to 6 months).
- Disposable files: Ideal for use in nail salons, available in different abrasiveness.
Conclusion
The choice of file depends on what you will use it for, how often and for which nails. This is quite a difficult question, but once you figure it out, your customers' nails will say "thank you" to you!
